As we all know, this type of solution has worked but the sun is starting to set on the traditional tape backup solution. Why? Cost, backup window, disaster recovery. All these are good reasons why companies are moving away from the traditional tape backup solution and moving toward a disk-to-disk and/or remote backup solution. Data and storage requirement are growing at an enormous rate and a TBU solution just isn't capable of keeping up. Sure, you can keep spending money on a bigger, faster tape solution but when does it end. What about getting those tapes off-site for disaster recovery purposes? Do you want to be the one responsible for changing the tapes on a daily basis? What if you're on vacation? Who's changing the tapes then? Or, worse yet, what if you have so much data that a tape library is necessary to backup your business critical data and you have to change multiple tapes daily and get them offsite? How much does all this cost in hardware, software and labor hours? And we've saved the best question for last. How reliable are tapes? We've all heard the horror stories of the "successful" backup report but then when we go to restore from the tape, the entire tape is bad. How can we help combat all the issues of the traditional tape backup solution? paraDATA. paraDATA is our remote backup solution that can compliment or replace your existing tape backup solution for your critical data. paraDATA is intended to be used to remotely backup or replicate your company's mission critical data. paraDATA is NOT intended to be used as an operating system or bare metal recovery solution. paraDATA can be installed in an Agent-Only mode (backs up to one of our remote servers) or in a local disk-to-disk solution, with the ability to enable data replication of the backed up data that resides on the NAS. paraDATA Agent is our remote backup solution that will remotely backup your data to one of our paraDATA servers. An agent is installed on any workstation or server whose data needs to be backed up. The agent has the ability to create multiple jobs with different selection criteria and can be run simultaneously or at varying time intervals. Restores are done via the agent software and you have the ability to select which version to restore. paraDATA NAS is our LAN disk-to-disk solution that has the built-in ability to start replicating its backed up data to one of our paraDATA replication servers. paraDATA NAS can be used to replace most existing backup solutions. With paraDATA NAS, a paraDATA Agent is installed on any workstation or server whose data needs to be backed up. Instead of backing up to one of our remote paraDATA servers, the agent will backup the data to the paraDATA NAS. The paraDATA NAS can then be configured to replicate its backed up data to one of our paraDATA replication servers.
